Do you live in the Old Meadows Conservation Area?

Do you live in a draughty Victorian house which is hard to keep warm?

Would you like to know how to insulate your home?

The Old Meadows Conservation area contains some lovely examples of Victorian terrace homes and although beautiful, these homes are often leaky, draughty and expensive to heat. We want to make sure that these homes are protected for future generations to enjoy and are also insulated to make sure that they are warmer and healthier homes for everyone who lives in them.

We have created personalised guides which tell you how to add insulation to your Victorian home. The guides include information on how to deal with common tricky detail (e.g. where your roof insulation meets the wall insulation).

Create Your Personalised Insulation Guide

You may already have the skills to carry this work out on your own, but if not, this guide can also be given to your builder to show them how you want the work to be done. You can also attend one of our DIY Workshops or our Practical Introduction to Conservation Retrofit Course to learn some of the practical skills needed to carry out this work.

Green Meadows also have a Toolshare where you can hire the tools you will need to insulate your home for free.

Green Meadows can also offer you a Future-Fit Home Plan. This is a step-by-step retrofit plan tailored to your home, which considers the best order to make improvements, and how to pair energy saving measures with routine maintenance jobs.

Reducing Energy in the Meadows

Upgrading all Victorian houses in the Old Meadows as outlined in our Insulation Guide
could save 2,915 tonnes of carbon annually.

That's equivalent to taking more than 4,834 flights from London to New York.

Insulating all homes could save £2 million every year in energy bills.

We calculated these figures using the Green Meadows Future-Fit Plans and Energy Audit. A study was carried out on the different house types in the Old Meadows to see how much energy is used and how much could be saved if homes were fully retrofitted.

The Insulation Guide helps to address the inefficiencies of Victorian homes in the Meadows, reducing energy loss en masse.
